Biggest Week 8 Games For District Standings

With 2 weeks left in the season, many conference races are settled or will be settled by Saturday.  Teams are starting to turn their eyes toward the district playoffs and where they stand.  What seed will they be?  Who will they play?  Will they host a game?  Here are the biggest games that affect those questions for area teams.

CLASS 6
District 4

For Kickapoo and Joplin, they simply need to keep winning.  Kickapoo to try to stay the #1 seed.  Joplin to try to move out of the #7 spot.  Lee's Summit West and Park Hill are ahead of them at #4 and #6 respectively.  Each should win tonight but both have tough games next week.  That leaves one key game this week.
  • #2 Lee's Summit (6-1) at #5 Raymore-Peculiar (4-3) - A win by Ray-Pec would most likely secure the #1 spot for Kickapoo, but they can do that themselves by winning.  A Lee's Summit win combined with a Joplin win moves the Eagles ahead of Ray-Pec and gives them a chance to move up to the #4 seed next week.
CLASS 5
District 4

Glendale has the top spot locked up but #2 is up for grabs.  That gives us 2 important games.
  • #2 Lebanon (5-2) at Kickapoo (6-1) and Nixa (5-2) at #3 Ozark (5-2) - Lebanon is in a better spot as they pick up bonus points for playing up a class, but would probably still fall to #3 with a loss and Ozark win.  The #2 seed and first round bye probably goes to the team that doesn't slip up this week.
District 5

This one is pretty simple.  Carthage will hold onto the #1 if they win out.  Neosho can probably get the #1 with a win next week over Carthage if they are still in the #2 spot.  Nixa has the head to head with Neosho so if things stay as they are, they will move up to the #2.  The critical piece is in Neosho's hands.
  • Webb City (4-3) at #2 Neosho (5-2) - The Wildcats have everything to play for.  A win sets up a huge game next Friday with Carthage.  A loss most likely sends them to the #3 slot.
CLASS 4
District 5

The battle for the top seed is still very much in play.  Carl Junction is in the pole position, but #2 Camdenton will pick up 20 bonus points for playing Joplin this week.  And is Webb City stumbles, their #3 spot is in jeopardy with Bolivar nipping at their heels.
  • Joplin (4-3) at #2 Camdenton (5-2) - Not only will the bonus points help Camdenton, they desperately need to win this game as they finish the regular season with Glendale.  A pair of losses could drop them as far as the #5 seed.
CLASS 3
District 1

Salem is barely holding on to the #4 seed and now has to play Mt. View-Liberty.  Luckily everyone in their district from #2 to #8 has tough competition this week so they could all take a loss.  But one team does have a chance to jump them.
  • #5 Potosi (3-4) at North County (4-3) - Potosi still has 5-2 DeSoto next week, but if they can get past North County and Salem loses, they'll have the lead coming into the home stretch.
District 3

The top two seeds are pretty much set, but #3-#8 are still in play.  #3 Catholic, #5 Rogersville, and #8 Buffalo all have a chance to really help themselves the last 2 weeks.  But 2 of those teams play each other Friday.
  • #3 Catholic (4-3) at #5 Rogersville (3-4) - The Wildcats would move into position to host a first round game with a win here.  But if they lose, they give Buffalo a chance to jump them in week 9.
District 4

A relatively quiet week here as things look fairly settled. #4 Mt. Vernon has Lamar but #5 Hollister isn't in striking range at the moment.  #7 East Newton will pick up some bonus points playing McDonald County and could position themselves to move up with a win.  The real interesting stuff is next week.

  • Strafford (2-5) at #5 Hollister (3-4) - A Hollister win and Mountaineer loss would give the Tigers a chance to move up to the #4 next week.  A loss could have them meeting Monett in round 1.
CLASS 2
District 3

This district seems to be fairly settled with Liberty, Mountain Grove, Ava, and Diamond in the top 4 spots.  Willow Springs could possibly make a move but would have to beat Thayer.  So this week is mainly about avoiding the top 2 in the first round of districts.
  • #6 Strafford (2-5) at Hollister (3-4) - The Indians need to win to avoid dropping to one of the bottom 2 spots.  Plus with the bonus points from playing Hollister, they could jump Willow Springs this week if the Bears lose.
District 4

#1 is Lamar. Done.  #2 will be Fair Grove if they win this week.  #3 Cole Camp has a chance to move past them but it's slim.  Warsaw is locked into the #8.  That leaves 4-7 up for grabs especially with #4 Versailles and #5 California facing some tough competition the next 2 weeks.  California will lose their next 2 games giving Stockton and El Dorado Springs a chance to move past them.  And Versailles probably falls to Southern Boone County next week.
  • Hallsville (3-4) at #4 Versailles (3-4) - This pretty much decides if Stockton or ElDo have a chance to host a playoff game.  If Versailles loses, the door swings wide open.
CLASS 1
District 2

The battle is right up top.  Ash Grove sits in the #1 spot with Fair Grove on the schedule this week.  Thayer has 2 more losses than the Pirates and Mountain Grove ahead next week.
  • Fair Grove (7-0) at #1 Ash Grove (6-1) - With Thayer most likely taking a loss next week, the Pirates could lock up the top spot with a win, and maybe even with a close loss.
District 3

Another district where the top is fairly set.  The bottom 4 are just trying to avoid playing either #1 Cass-Midway of #2 Lockwood.
  • #7 Rich Hill (1-6) at #5 Archie (1-6) - This is Rich Hill's chance to move out of the bottom 2.  And Archie could get a good grip on the #5 spot if Jasper loses to Appleton City this week.
District 4

#1 Lincoln needs a pair of wins to stay on top because #2 Crest Ridge has 2 winless teams left to play.  That means #3 Skyline is looking to hold on to their spot with #4 Appleton City looking to move up.
  • #3 Skyline (4-3) at Marionville (2-5) - This is probably the place where the Tigers are more likely to trip up.  And they can't afford to with Appleton City closing with Jasper and Miller.
8-MAN
District 4

Greenfield has the #1 locked down.  As does Chilhowee at #5.  The only real question is who will be the #4 and play for the right to face the Wildcats in the semifinals?  #2 Sacred Heart has wins over #3 Norborne and #4 Northwest so it's down to them.
  • #4 Northwest (3-3) at #3 Norborne (4-3) - They will settle it on the field this week.  The winner is the #3 seed and gets a week off to start district play.
