District round up from Thursday Night

Well we have some rematches as we narrow the number of teams still alive in the state basketball playoffs. ON the girls side, down in Nixa for the District championship, we have a rematch of a game from December 6th between Ozark and Glendale. The final on that day was Ozark 51, Glendale 41. Up in Willard we have the same on the Boys side with Willard v Carthage. A game that was played on Feb 11 in which Tim Huskinson scored 33 pts hitting 9 3 pointers in route to a 69-54 win for Willard. The same goes for the Hillcrest v Rogersville game which is a rematch of the Republic TOurnament Championship game in which the final shot takin in that game gave the Hornets a last second win. But much has changed for these teams since those meetings. Megan Dienes has another full season under her belt, Jackie Wacha may be taking the court for the last time and Haylee Beard is no longer just a sophmore. I doubt Carthage will give up 9 three pointers to Huskinson, but 33 points is nt out of the realm. Will the Central Lady Bulldogs be able to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the past several years as they attempt to derail the Lady Cardinals. Kickapoo and Hillcrest both doing battle shorthanded, Hillcrest definately with a heavy heart as their freshmen phenom, Darnel Green-Beckham, begins the battle of his life vs Leukemia. While Kickapoo has been without Kirk all season. So what can be expected in the next few hours of basketball? Who will step up, who will struglgle with the pressure?

Joboo's ROLL OF HONOR

District Games from Wednesday

And we have another upset, at least according to the seeds, as the Branson boys take down Nixa 62-54. Avery Dingman scores 24 points for the Pirates. Branson looked like the proverbial “team getting hot at the right time” coming in to this district, and sure enough they get the huge win. They’ll face Kickapoo in the championship game as the Chiefs ride 22 points from Ryan Rippee and 21 from Cody Anderson to an 80-69 win over arch-rival Glendale.

On the girls side, Marshfield gets revenge for their loss to Bolivar last Friday and move in to the championship game at Marshfield as they defeat Bolivar 67-54. Lauren Aldridge scored 27 for the Lady Jays. Their opponent will be Republic who looks to be hitting on all cylinders right now as they mowed down Hillcrest 76-34.

Class 4 and 5 District Scores

We have our first final set for the class 5 district 10 boys at Waynesville. And along with that comes the biggest upset of the young district season. Fourth seed Lebanon jumped all over top seed Rolla and knocked off the Bulldogs 71-43 to advance to the championship game. There, they’ll meet the host Waynesville Tigers who brought Camdenton down off their high from the Hillcrest game in a hurry, defeating the Lakers 49-40.

And the finish of the night comes from the girls side at the class 5 district 11 at Nixa. Fifth seeded Branson gets a layup from Kirsten Smethers with four seconds left to send fourth seeded Parkview home as the Lady Pirates win 59-58. Branson moves on to face #1 seed Ozark in Thursdays semifinal.

Joboo's Honor Roll

Quite a number of updates from last week’s list. Two more Richland Lady Bears break the 1,000 point barrier. Both Jessica Hutton and Mallory Warren did it in the same game Saturday. For Warren, that’s 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. And with three 1,000 point scorers at Richland, someone was bound to be handing out some assists. Well, we found her last week. Say hello to the Ozarks assist queen, Tisha Crewse. Ms. Crewse is dropping close to 10 dimes a game and takes the #1 spot in single game assists with 15. Fair Grove’s Kayla Kepler gets her name high on a couple of lists including the top girls triple double of the year with a 35 point, 12 steal, 10 rebound effort against Laquey. The 12 steals is the second best game in steals this season for girls.

On the boys side we have our first triple doubles (although I suspect there’s more) and neither one is conventional. Everton’s Logan Brown goes for 18 points, 10 assists, and 10 steals back on Dec. 4. And Dylan Whitworth scores 18, grabs 17 boards, and blocks 11 shots against Wheatland on Jan 4. That also puts him atop the best block games of the year.
