Bowling for Brain Injury fundraiser information

Concussions are an important topic in sports today. And we applaud the Brain Injury Association of Missouri (BIA-MO) for hosting Sports Concussions: Facts, Fallacies and New Frontiers seminar earlier this year.

The BIA-MO also provides education and support for survivors of moderate to severe brain injuries and their families. We want to share our personal stories of brain injury and ask you to support Bowling for Brain Injury.

Mike Edwards
My son Christopher sustained a brain injury in a car crash after throwing me the perfect 50th surprise Birthday Party. Little did I know that the hug and “I love you” before leaving the party may be the last time I would hear those words from him. The phone call at 2:30 am was not good. After arriving at the hospital we learned that Christopher sustained a traumatic brain injury and he may not survive. Since that night in 2005, our family has ridden the brain injury roller coaster. Christopher is one of God’s miracles! He has some speech deficits and weakness, but he drives, he walks, he enjoys Springfield Cardinals games and is a wonderful father, husband and son.  Read the full story by Mike Edwards Paulsell

My career changed due to a brain injury in a farm accident.  I was no longer able to be a teacher in the classroom. Now with Jock 98.7, I use may love of learning to educate others about everything sports. This includes education about concussions and the perfect reason to bowl on June 14.

The Brain Injury Association of Missouri is hosting Bowling for Brain Injury at Enterprise Park Lanes on June 14 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm.  Please join me and Mike in supporting BIA-MO.

Teams of up to six individuals set a goal to raise $500 or more to support services of the Brain Injury Association and win prizes. The individual to raise the most money through Bowling for Brain Injury – Missouri will receive two round trip airline tickets from Southwest Airlines. The person raising the most money for the Springfield location (if you do not win the airline tickets) will receive two tickets to the St. Louis Cardinals game on Sunday, August 3 and one-night hotel accommodations at Ramada Inn, downtown St. Louis.

The prizes are an added bonus to the fact of knowing you are helping to provide education about concussions, helping survivors of brain injury find resources, and helping families know they are not alone.  Just to mention a few of the great services of the Brain Injury Association.
