State Baseball From Friday

There will be no state championship in baseball for the Ozarks this year as both Ozark and Springfield Catholic lost in decisive fashion Friday. For Ozark, their opponent, Liberty, came out of the gate on fire scoring five in the bottom of the first and another in the second. The Tigers broke through with three in the fourth inning, but Liberty responded with four more runs in their half, then added three more in the fifth to end the game 13-3.

Catholic also fell behind in the first inning in their class 3 semifinal as Savannah took a 2-0 lead into the second. But then it was the Irish doing the scoring as they pulled one back in the second, and then plated four runs in the third to take a 5-2 lead. Dylan Love doubled home two runs, came home himself on a Scott Chesbro triple, and the Irish seemed to be right where they wanted to be. Alas, it was not to be. Savannah scored one in the bottom of the third, took the lead with three runs in the fourth, and put up a crushing seven runs in the fifth before scoring two in the sixth to run rule Catholic 15-5.

Opposite ends of the schedule for both teams today as they both try to claim third place finishes. The Tigers will play Vianney, a 14-13 loser to Francis Howell yesterday, for third place at 10 AM. While Catholic will have the late show, playing at 7 PM tonight against Kennett who dropped a 15-9 decision to Westminster Christian.

Catholic: Dylan Love – 2 for 4, 2B, 2 RBI

CLASS 4

Liberty 13, Ozark 3 (5 inn)
Ozark: Michael Headlee – 2B, 3 RBI
