Week 1 Games with District Implications

Yes, I said week ONE games with district implications!  With the new playoff structure being implemented this year, there are indeed games that will play an important role in the District seeds following week 9 of the season.  Looking at Friday's schedule there are 4 games taking place between teams in the same district.
In class 4 district 4, Webb City will travel to Carl Junction and in all likelyhood this will be a game that the Cardinals will win.  Webb will not be looking pass CJ to the next week when they put their 82 regular season game winning streak on the line when they host Springdale Har-Ber.  Cardinals last loss of any kind was November 21, 2009 at the hands of Kearney. The last 6 seasons Webb City is an astonishing 81-2.  So I do not anticipate Carl Junction tripping them up.
In Class 5 District 4 Lebanon will travel to Rolla in a District matchup, this is a Lebanon team that returns 4 of 5 lineman as well as thier quarterback Hayden Bracket and 3rd team all-state rusher Brock West.  West rushed for 1,569 yards last fall despite playing in only 8 games.  Bracket threw for more than 800 yards and I look for him to maybe double that output.  I am looking forward to a week 3 matchup between Lebanon and Camdenton which could be a game that decides the Ozark Conference.
The Class 3 District 4 matchup in Mount Vernon between the Mountaineers and the Monett Cubs could decide who gets a home game in week 10.  Mt. Vernon returns several players with varsity experience, but have to maybe get used to a new system under new head coach Ozzie Riley and week one maybe earlier for them than a week one under Coach Chad Depee who has been at Monett for 3 years now.  With the likes of Cassville, Seneca and Aurora in that district as well this may be a very pivitol game for District alignment.
In Class 1 District 2, a matchup between Miller and Marionville, from a Comet standpoint this is a Miller team who ended thier season last year in a 42-20 game eliminating Marionville from the post season.  Miller then went on to lose to the Skyline tigers.  Miller returns alot of varsity experience, just maybe not so much depth.  Coach Bill Voorhis of Marionville will have to replace some skill positon players but 4 of 5 lineman return.  This may be a game to determine home field advantage throughout district play.  Pierce City, Lockwood and Greenfield will have something to say about that as well most likely.
There are many week one matchups of interest, these just stuck out as games between district opponents that could have implications down the road.  I encourage the fans to continue to text your scores and updates to the Scoreboard Guy text line at 417-327-6914 and I will continue to make those available on the website, radio and web tv.

Thank you,

Guy Newcomb

Way to go Scoreboard Guy, what about Bolivar in class 4 they won't have to play Webb City until the Dome. And Rogersville in Class 3, they are defending State Champs. Hard to believe you missed those!

Yeah, you are correct with the new playoff systen if Bolivar and Webb City meet it will be in the State Championship game. I believe Liberator fans would take that. Rogersville is the defending state champs and do have some key players returning. I believe with the loss of Dylan Cole and Joe Zimmer class 3 is just so touph in this part of Missouri. I know with Coach Smith they will be prepared, I just think others may be to strong.

Hey Guy, what has this new ozarks sports zone done to your score updates. I know they went after alot of the people around here to help them collect information. Did they contact you? If not why wouldn't they?

They did contact me, in fact I did some stuff for them back in January/February. I think it is great, they are giving more attention to HS athletes in the area and that helps me gather information. I think they will be successful, they have put alot of money and resources in this to allow it to fail. Mike Scott has kind of takin the rains and he has always been a hard worker for the HS Athlete, after all he is a former Willard Tiger.
