Tuesdays top Performances

A very windy day in SW Missouri baseball yesterday. But there were still some good plate appearances, Branson's Mike Compton colected 4 hits, while Willard Tiger Lucas Peterson went AWOL twice. Derek Durst of Fosrsyth turned in the first walk off home run of the season, and the first 5 hit game was turned in by Walnut Grove's Josh Peck.

I understand the political waverings in naming Coach of the Year, but their were some obvious oversights this season. If these folks are the same that rank the teams during the season, what are they thinking. For example a Crane team who is not even ranked in the top ten gets an overtime win vs Miller in state quarterfinals, and runs the table to a State title and Coach Guerin is not the guy? Wellington Napolean spends much of the season at #1 yet finishes 3rd. While I am sure he is a good coach, what the heck? And a Scott County Central team that I could have coached, gets the nod over Mike Linehan from Dadeville? Scott County's average margin of vicory was 51+ points per game in the playoffs, sure they were 30-0but that didn't help St. Dominic on the girs side of class 4. We had three teams with 30-0 records whose coach was overlooked. I realize this is very difficult, and the political characterization may not be fair, maybe it is more closely linked with realestate, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. In classes where the decision couldnt be affected by zip code or recruiting I believe they got it right. Exeter, Purdy and Stockton all deserved the honor as much as anyone on the girls side. Cannot say the same for SCC, WN, Hogan Prep and Borgia on the Boys. Now having said all this I must make the reader aware that these are MBCA (Missouri Basketball Coaches Association) awards, therefore, if a coach is not a member of the MBCA they are not elgible for this award. Membership is also a requirement to get a player placed on the All-Academic team.

Class 1,2 and 3 sectional results

The Crane boys go to overtime but get a win over Miller 56-54. Rhen Garner banked in a 3 pointer at the buzzer in regulation to tie the game. But Crane gets it done in the extra period.

And the big story is that defending class 3 girls state champions Mt. Vernon has fallen to Fair Grove 49-48 in the rematch from earlier this season.
