Hey lets go easy on the Zebras
We have had many tweets, emails and phone calls about the state of the affairs regarding the officials and certain games in this years Blue and Gold tourney. Being a former coach and official i feel like I may have some inisght into this rather touchy situation. As a former Athletic Director I have dealt with coaches who for whatever reason were unable to be a game, players who didn't show up and fans who failed to attend. In all those cases the games were still played. On the 1 or 2 occasions where the officials didn't show we couldn't play. We have to officials to be able to participate, it is the most thankless job associated with High School Sports. Basketball officials seem to take more abuse than any other game administrators, partly because of the pace of the game, partly because of the proximity of the fans and partly because of the mere fact that the game is played inside where voices easier heard and understood. Think about the fact there are maybe 2 football plays per minute while in a basketball game there are many opportunities to blow the whistle. Unfortunately there were some calls and no calls which occurred in the past 3 days of the Blue and Gold and I am sure they happened in other tournaments around Southwest Missouri. But I know most of the officials and for the most part they are well meaning men and lets cut them some slack. Are there times where they blow it, absolutely, but I blow it as well on a daily basis. Are there some that I wouldn't want doing a game that I was coaching or playing? You bet, but there are more that I could care less if they were in charge because for the most part they are as fair as they can be. Day 2 at the Blue and Gold
Well day 2 proved as always to be my favorite day of the Blue and Gold, we still had some big school, small school matchups to keep the attention of the fans. Game one although did feature the only Big-Big matchup in the Blue Division as Nixa took on Willard. Nixa comes out on top by ten 69-59. In game 2 of the day Bolivar jumped out to a 13-0 lead on Clever and at the end of one quarter the Liberators were on top 24-6. But after two timeouts the Blue Jays came roaring back outscoring Bolivar 20-9 in the second quarter. Clever finally gains the lead with 4 minutes to go and behind 22 pts from Jeremy Dresslaer and Joey Smith. Preston Guiot put in 23 for Bolivar but it wasn't enouph. A Bolivar timeout which resulted in a Technical Foul as they had already called thier last and an intentional foul against Prest Guiot helped seal the victory for Clever. The third game was over relatively early as Branson easily took care of Stoutland behind 26 from Avery Dingman. In the final game of the session Miller hung around with Kickapoo until a late 3rd and early 4th quarter run put the Chidfs up 67-45. The most interesting point of the game was the few minutes where the Cardinals had Freshmen Riley Jack, Junior Justin Jack and Senior Derek Jack all on the floor at the same time. Tommorows mathups will be number 1 seed Nixa vs the crowd favorite Clever followed by Branson vs Kickapoo.

Looking For Correspondants

It doesnt matter if you are a student, player, coach or even a grandparent if you go to the games we can use you. I dont care what school you are from we still need people in several different areas, so hey help us out.
Well it is time to get rollin' with Basketball Season
With respects givin' to the Wildcats from from Cassville, everyone else here in the Ozarks has turned the page to Basketball season. We will certainly try to keep you up to date with regards to those Wildcats as they go after thier 2nd consecutive State Title. Here at Scoreboard we have switched to the round ball. Many questions this season to answer, will Hannah Wilkerson break the career scoring record in the state? Will Branson find replacements for Wiebe and Unruh? How bout Central loosing 11 lettermen, and the Chadwick Cardinals are forced to reload as well. Can the Nixa Lady Eagles repeat, what COC team will challenge them? State quarterfinalist Webb City looks to be one of the Challengers in the conference and has to be looking for a class 4 return trip to Columbia. But look out for those Ozark Lady Tigers, the OC will be improved as well, Kickapoo is in the usual drivers seat but watch out for a young and improved Hillcrest Lady Hornet team. Oh and speaking of the Hornets, the boys get to play in the T of C this year and with move in Try Starks they might be the favorite there. But who knows, last year at this time would you have expected Aurora boys to 27-3, not I. Can anyone in class 1 beat Dadeville? After a class 1 meltdown against Chadwick in the Quarters last year they return all 5 starters, Miller boys will be good as well following thier final 4 trip last year. Who will be the suprises? Look for those Lady Tigers from Humansville to do some damage in class 1, got knipped last year by an Edie led Exetor team and they also return all 5 staters. Class 2 features the usual suspects with Fair Grove and Skyline, but there is a very good Stockton Lady tiger team looming on the horizon and that community is no stranger to post season play. Fordland is another team that could make some noise on the Girls side in the smaller school size. Hey tell us what you think.
